Preview and Prediction

The SMU men's basketball team had a promising start to their new era under first-year coach Andy Enfield and as a member of the ACC, defeating Tarleton State 96-62 on Monday.

Looking to continue their success, the Mustangs will face Florida A&M on Thursday night in Dallas. While it's still early in the season, Enfield was pleased with his debut on the home court at Moody Coliseum.

Enfield expressed his thoughts on the game, stating, "As a staff, we couldn't help but think, 'Wow, this is a fantastic place to play college basketball.' The atmosphere is perfect - the right size, full of energy, and the fan base is exceptional. We're thrilled to be here."

The Mustangs showcased their depth in their first game, with six players scoring in double digits. Junior guard Boopie Miller led the team with 21 points. Additionally, SMU forced 23 turnovers and capitalized on them with 30 points, while also scoring 38 points in the paint.

On the injury front, Enfield mentioned that Miller experienced a cramp during the game, but they are hopeful he will be ready for the next game after receiving fluids. Starting forward Matt Cross also faced an injury, exiting the game after just one minute due to back spasms - something that had not occurred during the preseason. Enfield also noted that freshman forward Mitchell Holmes is close to returning from an injury.

Despite their strong start, Enfield acknowledges that the team is still a work in progress.

On the other side, Florida A&M will travel to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex after a tough 105-59 loss to TCU on Monday night.

Although the score may not reflect it, the Rattlers finished strong with 37 of their 59 points in the second half against TCU. Senior guard Sterling Young led the team with 16 points.

First-year coach Patrick Crarey II discussed the nonconference season, stating on the BCSN GameTime Show that it is a time for the team to "learn and prepare for SWAC play."

This will be the second of four road games to open the season for Florida A&M and the first-ever meeting between the Rattlers and SMU.
